Daly Kitchen

This client found a home in a neighborhood they loved. Originally listed in the sales spec sheet as having a wonderful country kitchen, this kitchen was far from livable. A dirty, smelly, dark and dingy space needed totally re done before it could even be considered useable.

The cabinetry and counters were gutted, along with the paneled walls in the hearth room. The ceiling had some nice rustic, solid wood beams, however, the beams in the kitchen would not allow for maximum cabinetry space to the ceiling, so they had to be removed there. The laminate wood flooring was stripped back to the subfloor. The more things were stripped away the smells gradually dissipated.

All new hardwoods were installed and finished to match the existing floors in the rest of the home. All new maple cabinetry was installed with a combination of stained finish and painted finish. This combination gave the appearance of more space than was there while bringing more design character than the original. New Cambria Quartz counters were installed with a large stainless steel undermount sink. The backsplash is tongue and groove bead board wood trim matching the cabinetry finish. The wall cabinets were finished underneath and low voltage recessed puck lighting was installed for accent and for work. The cabinetry features creative flex storage with pullouts all around and storage above the stove in the range hood cabinet. The tile behind the stove directly reflects the brick in the fireplace in the hearth room.

The hearth room walls were plastered replacing the dingy wood paneling. The ceiling beams were altered, cleaned and textured between to keep some of that nice country feel. New slate stones were used to extend the fireplace hearth to the proper depth for the large sized firebox opening. A small flat TV was hung on a swing arm mount so the homeowner could follow along with favorite cooking shows while preparing the evening meal. The paint and the hardwoods help tie the hearth room and kitchen together.

In the end, a fresh, clean take on a country kitchen the client enjoys spending time in.
